Summary:
Personal power is fundamentally rooted in an individual’s self-awareness and self-worth, whether earned or inherited. It’s a question of whether one has earned power through their actions or is merely a pawn in a system, gaining power through collectivism and brute force.
Article:
A person with a 45-caliber 911 clutched in their side holster and a shiny badge has power because they are part of the system. Without the monopoly status of the institution of government, they possess no power. The same applies to individuals temporarily elevated to positions of power, who can influence access to the country’s money, regulations, and laws. When they leave their political position, retire from teaching, or take off their robe as judges, they will quickly lose the power they temporarily possessed. Temporary power differs from power earned through one’s actions and deeds over time.
The kind of power I am talking about is the earned power of an individual, which is rooted in one’s internal values, self-awareness, and self-confidence. This power is not given, but earned through one’s actions, and others perceive that one has earned the position of power, that is, an influential person. The person possesses a sense of control, agency, and internal orientation toward oneself, while acting simultaneously in the best interest of others. The significance of self-awareness and self-confidence in this journey of self-discovery and growth cannot be overstated, as they are the keys to personal power.
When a person can consistently act in the best interest of others, they stand out as a rare and precious breed, their actions shining as beacons of hope and inspiration. These actions may include making sacrifices for the well-being of others, advocating for justice and equality, and setting an example through ethical and moral conduct.
